This is the website of the Oxford (UK) Naqshbandi-Haqqani Sufi circle. We have a weekly zikr (or dhikr) in Oxford between 6.00pm and 8.00pm (most) Sundays here, to which everyone is welcome. Please check the Oxford Zikr Facebook page for up to date information about cancellations etc, or email us.

Attendance is always free of charge. There is no obligation to subscribe to our beliefs. If you are just curious about islam or sufism then please visit us or e-mail.

What is Zikr?

Zikr means remembrance of Allah. Our practice takes the form of various chants in arabic, while seated in a circle. The zikr typically takes between 30 and 45 mins to perform. When attending there is no compulsion to join in, just sit and listen if you like.

Those who believe, and their hearts find satisfaction in the remembrance of Allah: by remembering Allah truly satisfaction comes to the heart. (Quran 13:28)

The zikr is mixed, i.e. men, women and children are in the same room, but a curtain separates the two halves of the room. There is usually tea and biscuits afterwards (free of course) and a chance to talk, or ask questions if you wish.

I believe in the religion of love, wherever its stages may go, as love is my religion and faith. (Rumi)
